Founded by industry pioneer Mark Verstegen, Athletes' Performance (AP) is a refuge that provides the highest level of integrated performance training in the world to professional and elite athletes. Athletes' Performance operates two world-class training centers – in Tempe, Arizona and at the Home Depot National Training Center outside of Los Angeles, California – where they train many of the top Champions in Sport. In the past several years, their athletes have won nearly every honor in sports, including Green Jacket winners, Grand Slam winners, World Series champions, Stanley Cup champions, Super Bowl winners, NBA champions, Olympic Gold Medalists, and All-Stars from every major sport. In 2005 alone, 25% of the players selected in the 1st round of the NFL Draft trained at Athletes' Performance. Over the past two years, AP has trained 37 players picked on the first day of the draft.
Everything about the AP approach is integrated, from world-class performance coaches – focusing on strength, speed, power, movement, and injury prevention – to a team of performance physical therapists, nutritionists, regeneration specialists, energy system development (conditioning) specialists, sports scientists, sports psychologists, and performance chefs. AP is on the forefront of research and development in the industry and continues to lead the field with novel approaches to training and fitness. In the process, they have debunked many widely held myths and developed breakthrough solutions that have benefited their elite athletes.

Core Performance
The Core Performance community is revolutionizing the way athletes train and people think about health and fitness.

Started in January 2004 with the publication of Mark Verstegen's book, Core Performance (Rodale Press), and launched online in April 2005, the Core Performance community reflects our passion for sharing our proven programs to deliver ethical performance gains for athletes of all levels and for people simply competing in "the Game of Life".
Core Performance derives from the same systems we use at Athletes' Performance, which have helped to produce many of the top champions in sport. We have boiled down these cutting-edge systems and concepts to a form that everyone – from young athletes to recreational athletes to former athletes to non-athletes – can access and utilize.
Mark Verstegen was a leader in the industry in pioneering the philosophy of "core training", which forms the essence of our Core Performance programs. However, "core training" is often misunderstood by people now that the term has gained popularity and is being used by a wide range of trainers.
Core training does not mean impressing yourself in the mirror with 6-pack abs. It does not mean going on diet after diet while doing sit-up after sit-up. It is not about spending your whole life trying to look like the celebrity who walks across the red carpet. It is not just solely about the abs and low back.
True "core training", as is taught in Core Performance, is about mastering the fundamental movement patterns we were born with. The foundation of these movement patterns begins with pillar strength. Pillar strength is the complete integration of shoulder, torso and hip stability, which anatomically are woven together and when functioning properly provide the stable foundation for every human movement. Improving your pillar strength will decrease your potential for injury and significantly improve your performance in nearly every physical quality, including movement efficiency, speed, power, strength, endurance, balance, and flexibility.
By building your body "for go", not just "for show", you will move better, feel better, and elevate yourself so that you may elevate those you care about. This is the "centered self" approach that is at the heart of Core Performance.
Of course, when you work hard at the Core Performance programs, you will look better than you ever have. However, the true impact – for our athletes, and for you – will be deeper. When we strengthen our athletes' core, they can perform better given the demands of their sport, and they are far less likely to get injured in the process. They also learn what they need to do – training, regeneration, nutrition, and lifestyle – to stay at the top of their game.
If you're an athlete, you'll prepare your body to reach its maximum sport-specific potential. If you're not an athlete, you'll feel like one with more power and energy than you have ever had to conquer the demands of your day. You will move better, feel better, and elevate yourself to live a long, healthy life to be there for those you love and cherish.
